Corporate real estate constitutes a large percentage of fixed assets of a firm. Changing economic, regulatory, competition and financing situations cause firms to undertake corporate reorganization and restructuring. With the accompanying financial and operational restructuring, corporate real estate in a firm is very often involved. Various techniques of corporate reorganization and restructuring are available for decision makers to change the composition of corporate real estate to be realigned to the new business objectives of the firm. Among the techniques of corporate real estate reorganization and restructuring are divestiture, acquisition, spin-off, joint venture and going private etc. This article will focus on divestitures and acquisitions in releasing hidden corporate real estate values.
